My Paper Works

For my Mini Expert Papers, I chose two topics that are very different, but both are connected to choices we make every day. My first paper focuses on electronic device use and sleep quality, and my second paper explores what organic food labels really mean. I chose these topics because they are things most people see or experience regularly, but we do not always stop to think about how they may affect our health. Researching them helped me look at some of my own habits differently and reminded me how important it is to understand the information behind the choices we make.

Electronic Device Addiction and Sleep Quality

For my first research paper, I wanted to learn more about how frequent smartphone and electronic device use can affect sleep. This topic felt especially interesting to me because phones are such a normal part of daily life, especially for students. It is easy to spend more time on a phone than we realize, particularly at night.

During my research, I learned that heavy smartphone use can be connected to poorer sleep quality. I also learned how important sleep is for concentration, memory, mood, and learning. What made this topic more personal for me was thinking about my own habit of using my phone before bed. It made me realize that even small changes, such as putting the phone away earlier, may help create healthier sleep habits.

What Organic Food Labels Really Mean

For my second research paper, I wanted to understand what the word “organic” really means when we see it on food packaging. I often noticed that organic products cost more, and I wondered whether all organic labels meant the same thing.

Through my research, I learned that “100% organic,” “organic,” and “made with organic” have different USDA requirements. I also found it interesting that an organic label mainly tells us how the food was produced. It does not automatically mean that the food has more nutrients or is healthier than another product.

This topic made me realize how easy it can be to make assumptions based on labels or advertising. After completing this paper, I became more careful about reading both the organic label and the Nutrition Facts information before deciding what a product really offers.
